Olifantsrivier Rosé
Nose: Floral, lime, peach, minerals, Turkish delight, rose petals, liquorice. On the mouth there is an intense sensation of saltiness with dark fruits in the background.
The 2024 Olifantsrivier Lledoner Pelut/Agiorgitiko Rosé is an exploration into the new and exciting varietals that are available in the West Coast area, where we have some of the most extreme growing conditions in South Africa. This wine was made to showcase how new and more drought tolerant varietals can withstand the tough conditions of this area.
Grapes were picked early in the morning to preserve freshness, then cooled down before being wholebunch pressed to settling tanks. Assyrtiko was pressed and settled to use the Assyrtiko lees on the Agiorgitiko.
The Assyrtiko juice was removed and used in another wine. The Agiorgitiko was wild fermented on Assyrtiko lees and the Lledoner Pelut was fermented with Syrah berries. After 4 months in 228 liter barrels the two wines were blended and bottled.
Bottled with the addition of a little sulphur, unfined and unfiltered. W.O. Olifantsriver
The Agiorgitiko was planted in 2021 on Sandstone soils just outside of Vredendal, while the Lledoner was planted in 2021 on sandstone soils outside Citrusdal.
