The Sand Erf Vermentino 2023 is a 100% Vermentino white wine from young vines located 15 kilometres from the cold Atlantic ocean, in Koekenaap on the West Coast of South Africa.
Grapes were picked early in the morning to preserve freshness, then cooled down before being crushed the next morning.
The 2023 Sand Erf was harvested in two separate parcels, with the first parcel getting 12 hours on the skins, before pressing and the second parcel getting whole bunch pressed. After pressing both parcels were blended.
Fermentation started after two days and lasted for about one month, fermentation temperature was kept at 18⁰C. After fermentation the wine was racked to one 300 litre barrel for aging on the gross lees. Aging in barrel was done for 4 months with regular stirring of the lees.
Bottled with the addition of a little sulphur, unfined and unfiltered. W.O. Koekenaap
